Our story

Welcome to Earth by Foot! We are Eric, Mariola, Ethan, and Luci—an adventurous family of four who love nature, the great outdoors, travel, and adventure. My wife and I have traveled most of our lives. Our most recent journey was an 18+ month trip around the globe worldschooling our two children.

During that precious time, we realized there’s no better way to raise good humans than to expose them to different cultures, religions, people, and places.

We’ve done budget travel, luxury travel, and everything in between. We’ve traveled by bus, train, horse, camel, big plane, bush plane, taxi, and ship. Many of the places and things we do, you might not have heard of.

Other places we visit might be pretty common, but they’re too cool not to talk about. On all our trips, no matter where we are, we focus on adventure and the unordinary curiosities that make us want to explore.

Our mission

Having explored over 15 countries across four continents, we’re excited to keep adding to our travel calendar and hope to travel to each country. We aim to connect with like-minded adventure enthusiasts by sharing inspiration and valuable information about various destinations worldwide.

On each of our adventures, we’ll provide interesting facts that others can use to help educate their families when they travel to those places. We’re dedicated to providing useful tips and insightful advice. If you’re passionate about adventure and travel, you’ve come to the right place.

Helping you plan your best adventures

We originally started our travel and adventure blog to document our experiences for family and friends. What started as a hobby has become a travel and adventure website to help others explore the world and try different experiences.

My wife and I boldly moved to spend more one-on-one time with our children while they were young. We did this by taking them out of traditional school to begin traveling around the globe while homeschooling them simultaneously.

We’ve taught our kids on planes, trains, buses, ships, hikes, and Ubers. Along the way, we have met the most amazing people and seen the coolest cultures. The more we talked with others, the more we realized that many of the activities that we considered normal were not so common after all.

Then, we started directing like-minded people we met along our travels to our website. The people we met were looking for ideas on places to travel and wanted all the details on how and why we did certain adventures. They found our website helpful, and instead of just writing for family and friends, we found ourselves writing to people from around the world.

Meet Eric

Writer & photographer of Earth by Foot, father, spouse, adventurer, and health professional

As the main writer and photographer of Earth by Foot, it’s been a crazy experience documenting my family’s travels and experiences.

Since a young age I was drawn to the outdoors, adventure and travel, and I’ve never stopped since. I’ve had the opportunity to work in remote areas such as Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park and Alaska. I’ve been on the summit of some of the tallest mountains, whitewater rafted on rivers around the globe, fished in different oceans and crossed the Tasman Sea on a ship.

Meet Mariola

Mother, spouse, health professional

Mariola enjoyed traveling around the world, especially because she got to spend more one-on-one time with her children. She was the main teacher of both our kids, Ethan and Luci, during our world travels. She’s a great planner and for someone not naturally adventurous, is willing to try almost any new experience. Her favorite place to visit so far has been Cuba.

Meet Ethan

Fish filleter, entrepreneur, bush pilot, and chainsaw artist

When you travel around the world together as a family, you really get to know one another in different way. Ethan is growing up to be a self-sufficient young man. During our travels he worked as a chainsaw artist and sold his art in Alaska.

He used his money from that and filleting salmon to take pilot lessons. His desire for adventure and constant learning never stops, and that makes us have more fun when we travel. His favorite place to travel is Alaska.

Meet Luci

Entrepreneur, jeweler

Luci has also been adventurous since a young age. She truly loves traveling and if she had it her way she would continue to travel the world while being homeschooled. It would not surprise us if she decided to live in another country or became a nomad later in life. She’s inquisitive, creative and willing to try new things and travel anywhere. Her favorite place to visit so far has been Australia.
